About Chris
Chris has completed a 17 year Kung Fu apprenticeship under the guidance of a high level Kung Fu teacher in Australia (via Mainland China)
He has trained in numerous Tai Chi styles and holds a second degree black belt in Taekwondo. He has a Degree in Human Biology majoring in Sports Science from the University of Canberra and further training in Soft Tissue Therapy, Bowen Therapy and body reading. He has over 20 years experience practising and teaching his passions of Tai Chi, Chi Gong and Kungfu.
Chris’ s Kung Fu apprenticeship had a primary focus on The Body Method (Shen Fa). This refers to methods of Releasing joints, connecting the entire body structure into a single unit, tension control and leg development. Training in this way results in a body that is flexibly powerful, moves in a biomechanically optimal way, and is sensitised to feeling deeply into the body. These are absolutely essential areas to focus on to develop the solid foundation needed for a powerful injury free body that’s brimming with energy for life.
‘Mastering the fundamentals of Tai Chi with Chris’ will ensure that deep body development, skill and understanding is ingrained. It has been designed for complete beginners, as well as those with experience of Tai Chi already.
There is a saying in Tai Chi culture, ‘the top is basics and the basics are the top’. Basics refer to the fundamentals within this program. ‘top’ is high level skill.
How a beginner gains a high level of skill is by thorough practise and understanding of the fundamentals. In turn, how an experienced practitioner continues to develop an even more advanced Tai Chi level is by continuing to diligently practise the fundamentals.
Furthermore, ‘Mastering Tai Chi Fundamentals with Chris’ is a perfect course aid in quickly and deeply understanding longer tai chi forms (particularly Yang and Wu styles of Tai Chi). It is a great progression after completing the 45 days of Zhan zhuang (Standing power and healing chi gong postures) course.
